Mr. Doug Greene earned his Bachelor of Arts degree as a double major in English and History before receiving his Master of Arts in English from John Carroll University, a Jesuit university in Cleveland. After many years of teaching, he transitioned to the business world and served as Customer Service Manager for Cole Vision. Although he retired in 1995 due to blindness caused by the eye disease Retinitis Pigmentosa, he was grateful for the opportunity to become a stay-at-home father for his children. Mr. Greene and his wife, Mary Ann, moved to Galion in 2008. He taught himself Spanish and has visited friends in Ecuador, Peru, Colombia, and Spain. He teaches English to Spanish speakers in the mornings and evenings and shares his love of the Spanish language with St. Joseph Catholic School students in grades 4–8 on Tuesday and Friday afternoons.
Mr. Greene and his guide dog, Dove, are a familiar sight walking the streets of Galion. Dove, his Seeing Eye Dog, accompanies him to school each Tuesday and Friday for Spanish classes. Mr. Greene enjoys helping students discover a new language and culture while building confidence in their communication skills.
