Celebrating the Faith at St. Joseph

At St. Joseph Catholic School, faith is more than just a subject — it’s a way of life. Catholic identity is infused throughout our school day, our curriculum, and our traditions. Through prayer, celebration, service, and reflection, students learn how to live their faith with joy and purpose.

Faith in the Classroom

  • Daily religion class helps students build a strong foundation in Catholic teaching
  • Prayer is a regular part of our school day — to start our day, before lunch, and before activities
  • Teachers incorporate faith-based values and biblical lessons into all subjects

Faith-Filled Traditions & Celebrations

Saints Museum

  • Grades 5–8 each research a saint and dress as them for our Saints Museum
  • Students present their saint to the school and parish community
  • Includes a field trip to Holy Trinity Church where students attend Mass and share their presentations

St. Nicholas Day

  • Celebrated on December 6
  • Students leave shoes in the hallway to be filled with special treats — a fun and faith-based tradition honoring St. Nicholas

Advent Wreath Lighting

  • Each week during Advent, students gather to light the Advent candles and reflect on the season of preparation and hope

Palm Sunday Reenactment

  • Students bring the events of Palm Sunday to life by acting out Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem

Classroom Celebrations

  • Special celebrations are held in honor of Jesus’ birthday (Christmas) and the joy of the Resurrection (Easter)
  • Classroom celebrations are held throughout the year to celebrate the holidays occurring during the school year.

Feast of St. Joseph

  • Students attend Mass in honor of our school’s patron saint, St. Joseph

St. Patrick’s Day

  • Students wear green in celebration of St. Patrick, a beloved missionary and saint of the Church

Friday Fasting

  • Fridays are observed as days of fasting and abstaining from meat throughout the entire school year, helping students understand this spiritual discipline

Catholic Schools Week: A Celebration of Faith, Family & Community

Each year, Catholic Schools Week is one of the most anticipated events at St. Joseph Catholic School. Taking place during the last week of January, the week is filled with prayer, celebration, service, and fun — all centered around living out our Catholic faith with joy and gratitude.

Every day of the week follows a unique theme that guides special dress codes, activities, and reflections:

Daily Highlights

  • Theme-based prayers led by students and staff
  • Drop Everything and Pray (DEAP): Students pair up randomly to share personal prayer intentions
  • Creative Gratitude: Students write 100-word essays, poems, or create drawings that express their thankfulness for Catholic education

✨ A Special Prayer for Catholic Schools Week

Loving God, we thank you for the gift of Catholic Schools. As we celebrate Catholic Schools Week, help us to always be aware of the blessing of our school family and the chance for each of us to be members of it. We thank you for the opportunity to attend a school where we can live out your Gospel and be shaped as your disciples. Jesus said, “Let the children come to me, and do not prevent them; for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” (Matthew 19:14) Amen.
